My student life is the best time, best phase, golden period, and important stage of my life. The most enjoyable, lovable, memorable, and fanciful phases of our life with lots of nostalgic and immortal memories are childhood and college-university life; it cannot be negated.
Fond memories of the days spent at Jahangirnagar University, BAF Shaheen College Dhaka, Adamjee Cantonment College, Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasah and Kamalia Chala Alim Madrasah evoke visual images of people, places and time spent on the campus. Still I miss people from my past – Places, time, memories.
If I stop and close my eyes, I can see it all so clearly and feel as if those days were not very long ago. The joys of student life are surely countless. There are many memories of the student’s life. Every memory is so special and unforgettable.
Jahangirnagar University
Jahangirnagar University (JU) is a public research university located in Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is the only fully residential university of Bangladesh.
Jahangirnagar University was formally launched on 12 January 1971 under the Jahangirnagar Muslim University Ordinance, 1970 and this day is observed as University Day. Initially, it was named Jahangirnagar Muslim University, and the plan was to operate the university like Aligarh Muslim University. But after the independence of Bangladesh, its name changed to Jahangirnagar University under the Jahangirnagar University Act’ 1973.
The university was established in 1970 by the Jahangirnagar Muslim University Ordinance of the government of Pakistan. Its first vice-chancellor, Mafizuddin Ahmed (PhD in chemistry, Penn State) took up office on 24 September 1970. The first group of students, a total of 150, was enrolled in four departments: Economics, Geography, Mathematics, and Statistics. Its formal inauguration was delayed until 12 January 1971, when the university was launched by Rear Admiral S. M. Ahsan, the chancellor.
It operated as a project until 1973, when the ‘Jahangirnagar Muslim University Act’ was amended as the ‘Jahangirnagar University Act’. It has now 36 departments and Six Faculties along with four institutes, with added than fifteen thousand students, and about Five hundred academics adherent to teaching and research.
The aboriginal assembly of Independent Bangladesh accepted the university its Charter in 1973 beneath which the university is getting operated. The badge of the university bears the civic annual ‘white lily’ (Lilium condidu) with three petals belted by strips of an acceptable floral architecture with the name of the university in Bangla ensconcing in a semi-circle like a band of flowers.
Jahangirnagar University is one of the arch Universities in Bangladesh. The University is a residential one. The university stands on the west side of the Asian Highway, popularly known as the Dhaka-Aricha Road, and is 32 kilometres away from the capital. Spread over an area of 697.56 acres (2.8 km2), the campus surrounded by the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) on the south, and the Savar Cantonment on the northeast, on the north of which is the National Monument (Jatiyo Smriti Soudho) and a large dairy farm on the east.
JU is considered as the most beautiful university in Bangladesh. The topography of the land with its gentle rise and plains is pleasing to the eyes. The water features sprawled around the campus make an excellent habitat for the winter birds that flock in every year in the thousands and consequently, it is a site frequented by many bird watchers.
On 19 January 2017, the university arranged a bird fair in its Zahir Rayhan auditorium. The Shahid Minar (martyrs’ monument) of JU is the tallest in Bangladesh, 71 feet high and made of ceramic bricks on a base 52 feet in circumference. The height signifies the war of independence fought in 1971 and the circumference refers to the language movement of 1952. It is designed by architect Robiul Hossain.
The university is an autonomous body managed by an executive council known as ‘the syndicate’. Its statutes need ratification by the Senate of the university, which meets at least once a year to do the same. The Senate passes the annual budget of the university, reviews its academic matters, and elects a panel of three nominees for the position of its vice-chancellor once every four years. The selection and appointment are made by the president of Bangladesh, who is the chancellor of the university. The chancellor also appoints the pro-vice-chancellor and the treasurer of the university.
BAF Shaheen College Dhaka
BAF Shaheen College Dhaka is a co-education Bangladeshi college (grades KG-XII) established and controlled by the Bangladesh Air Force. Education-Patience-Discipline– these three words are the motto of the college.
BAF Shaheen College Dhaka is a renowned educational institution in Dhaka, well-run by Bangladesh Air Force authority, under the curriculum of the Ministry of Education, Department of Secondary and Higher Education and the Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Dhaka. Amongst the present six Shaheens, this is one of the best. It is situated at Jahangir Gate, Dhaka.
The college provides of education for the students from play-group to class XII. Providing education is not the only purpose of this college. One of the most important purposes of this college is to buildup educated, honest, healthy and above all patriotic citizens. The military advice of the college is ‘Education-Self-restraint-Discipline’.
All the actions done by the college have been designed with utmost sincerity to make those ethics true. Each and every student of the college introduces him/herself as a ‘Shaheen’. Shaheen means Eagle having the nature of flying in the free sky at a high speed. Therefore, a Shaheen is a bird attaining salvation. He roams around with utmost courage, in such an environment which is pure, sinless, clean and embeds in free thinking. The objective this institution expects from a shaheen is one main content of this brochre. BAF Shaheen College Dhaka also known as Dhaka Shaheen or BAFSD is a co-educational college situated in Dhaka Cantonment. The school was established on 1 March 1960 as P. A. F. Shaheen School. Originally English-medium, Bangla-medium was introduced in parallel from 1967. Shaheen High School was renamed BAF Shaheen College Dhaka when it began offering intermediate courses in 1977.
Degree pass courses were opened in 1990. Since then the college has been functioning as a degree college. The college has classes from kindergarten to Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC).
Adamjee Cantonment College

The college was established in 1960 with the patronization of Gul Mohammad Adamjee, a renowned industrialist of the then Pakistan. Established in the spectacular beauty of Kurmitola, this traditional institution was founded following the ideology and curricular of original public school of England- Eton and Harrow.
The campus is located in the heart of Dhaka Cantonment covering a land area of 8.82 acres. Gul Muhammad Adamjee, son of the founder of Adamjee Dynasty – Sir Haji Dawood Adamjee, established Adamjee Cantonment Modern School. Begum Gul Muhammad Adamjee laid the foundation stone on January 13, 1958. Field Marshal Muhammad Ayub Khan, the then President of Pakistan inaugurated the school on January 27, 1960.
The college has a flag with a monogram on blue canvas symbolising education, discipline, morality and knowledge. Before the liberation, the college earned the prestige of being a reputed English medium institution. After liberation, the medium of education became Bangla.
The students of this college for the first time appeared at Matriculation and Intermediate examinations respectively in 1962 and 1964. The college introduced graduation course (pass) in the session 1972-73. Afterwards, Masters Course was introduced in the session 1996-97 and Honours course was introduced in the session 1998-99.
Following this, BBA program was introduced in 2004-05. At present Higher Secondary (both Bangla and English Version), Graduation (pass), Honours Courses in English, Economics, Accounting, Political Science and Management along with Masters and BBA program are running in the college.
